Dunlop Stage 1 Green Dot balls are a key part of the ITF’s progressive tennis pathway for junior development. The Green stage is the final step before full adult play – the ball is full adult size (identical to a standard tennis ball) but inflated to approximately 75% of standard pressure, producing a slower, lower bounce that gives developing players aged roughly 9-10 more time to position and prepare for shots on a full-size court.
This extended preparation time is developmentally critical: children transitioning from the three-quarter court orange stage to the full adult court need time to develop the footwork, racquet preparation, and tactical awareness that full adult conditions demand. The Green Dot slows the game just enough to make this achievable without making it unrealistically easy.
Dunlop’s Stage 1 Green Dot is the most widely used green stage ball in organised junior coaching worldwide. It meets ITF Kids’ Tennis pathway specifications exactly and is appropriate for use in school programmes, club junior sections, and private coaching at the Green stage. The green dot marking provides clear identification so coaches can ensure the correct ball is always used at the correct stage.
